Cafe Art 2016 My London Calendar - Kickstarter

01st September 2015
Cafe Art connects those affected by homelessness with the community through art. I started volunteering for Cafe Art as a photographer towards mid 2014 and was overwhelmed by the passion from both the organisers and artists themselves. In July this year I was happy to get involved again from the beginning of their 2015 campaign and was one of the team leader volunteers who helped give out the 100 Fuji single-use cameras to the participants.

Some 80 cameras were returned and 2,500 images were developed. The selection was whittled down to 20 images by a selection panel including FujiFilm, Amateur Photographer magazine, The London Photo Festival, Christie’s and Homeless Link. These 20 images were displayed at Spitalfields Art Market in August for a week. The public were asked to vote for their top 3 photos for the Cafe Art 2016 My London Calendar. The public spoke and more than 2,400 votes were received. The final selection was made for the 12 official photos to be printed in the forthcoming Cafe Art 2016 calendar.

Through their Kickstarter campaign which launched on 20th August 2015. It costs £10,000 to print up the 5,000 calendars they need. I am so chuffed to see that the project has gone viral around the world that they have smashed their modest goal of £4,500 and have already reached over £10,527 as of 1st September, thanks to 551 backers, still with 18 days to go!

Want to help? Pre-order this high quality calendar through their Kickstarter website for the online backer price of £9.00 and help support the Cafe Art team and those affected by homelessness.

Great work Paul and Michael, congrats to all the photographers, the many other volunteers - all your hard work is paying off! See you guys again very soon!

Photo comment By Paul Ryan: Hi Linda, Thank you for this great personal insight into what we are doing. As you know, we are very small but the impact on individuals is great and we hope to continue building on our arts and photography programmes. Thanks for helping us - we really appreciate it!
