Seen in.... Notting Hill, London - Protest for George Floyd
A wall graffiti scrawl with the simple statement 'Protest for George Floyd' on a freshly painted green wall.
On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes while he was handcuffed face down in the street.
Some may will argue, George Floyd was no saint, however in that moment in time, if one cannot see that his death was one of sheer, blatant police brutality and a lack of accountability, (one of many), than ALL of humanity has no hope. No justice - no peace.
Black Lives Matter, anti-racism protests across all 50 US states have been taking place, as well as around the world in solidarity, including London this week.
Part of my Seen in... London Series, an ongoing photography project - snapping my visions of London and the people who live in it one click at a time!

PRINCE A London Private View Exhibition - Afshin Shahidi
27th February 2019
Outside of the Herrick Gallery
I had the pleasure of being invited to the opening night of PRINCE: A London Private View. An exhibition showcasing the personal work of Prince's official photographer and trusted friend Afshin Shahidi. As anyone who knows me knows, I am a huge Prince fan. Many of the selected images show a rear and intimate side of Prince that we never see, and Afshin has captured each one perfectly.
PRINCE - A London Private View: Afshin Shahidi
27 February - 9 March 2019
Opening times: 27 & 28 February 11am-5pm / 1-9 March 11am-7pm (Sunday 3 March 12-5pm).

Quoted from the Herrick Gallery website:
The exhibition will feature rare and intimate images of Prince, primarily drawn from Shahidi’s recently published photo book. Illustrating Prince’s exceptional talent through his strenuous work ethic, enigmatic persona, unique charm, and sexual charisma, the limited edition prints on view will convey the power of the late musician’s flamboyant and multi-instrumental performances. The qualities that made Prince a worldwide phenomenon are captured in striking still reflections by his colleague and friend, Afshin Shahidi.
Iranian-born Shahidi collaborated with Prince longer than almost any other photographer. He met the musician in their shared hometown of Minneapolis back in 1993 at Prince’s renowned recording studio, lyrically portrayed by the artist as “there aren’t any rules in Paisley Park”. Initially working as a cinematographer, Shahidi’s passion for creating still images was obvious to Prince who soon after invited him to photograph his then band, the New Power Generation.
After a trial period, and satisfied with the essence, Prince asked Shahidi to become his official still photographer. In this position, Shahidi captured Prince on stage and at play, in highly styled settings and in candid situations. He travelled with Prince from Panama, to Morocco, to London and beyond. The relationship between the two transitioned from professional peers, to dueling conversationalists, to trusted companions. Ultimately, Shahidi’s unique access to the notoriously inaccessible Prince gave him the opportunity to create indelible images of the icon.
Shahidi hopes his photographs will give the public a renewed appreciation for the late performer and recalls of Prince: “He became my mentor, business partner, travel companion, collaborator, and – most important – my friend. He took it upon himself to encourage me to see the world as a place of opportunities, not limitations. He taught by example. I knew I had to grow as a photographer, both technically and artistically – I had no choice. My subject was, unequivocally, the most talented musician of our time.”

The MyTownPhotography Competition Winner 2018 is....
06th December 2018
Congratulations to everyone who made the shortlist, and to this year’s winner, Andy Allchurch!
On Wednesday 5 December, Clear Channel held a Pop Up on Baker Street in London to celebrate this year’s shortlisted entries, and to announce this year’s winning entry in the MyTownPhotography competition.
There was a selection of images from the competition on display throughout the day, including the shortlisted photos and images from our judges, renowned street photographers Dougie Wallace, Ronya Galka & myself.
HND Photography student Andy Allchurch who won the My Town Photography Competition with his shot "Do Not Feed The Gulls"!
Speaking of his win with his entry ‘Do Not Feed The Gulls’, taken in Liverpool, he said:
“It’s all a bit surreal, but it’s amazing to have won. My intention was just to get a photograph of the man who looked slightly strange feeding these seagulls so much bread. As I went to take the photo the seagull flew past his face, with its faced stuffed. In all honesty, it was a complete fluke, which is an aspect I really like about street photography. But it’s a beautiful fluke! I love that the image is a bit of fun too – kind of channelling that Scouser sense of humour.”
Andy entered the competition after seeing MyTown promoted on Clear Channel screen, and his image will join all other shortlisted images featured as part of the UK’s biggest outdoor exhibition of street photography. He was also rewarded with a FujifilmX100F camera, which he received at the MyTown pop-up, and a UK city break of his choosing.

I received a complimentary ticket to the annual Sony World Photography Awards exhibition being held at Somerset House, so went to check it out this afternoon. As always it is a big exhibition with a diverse range of photography genres including street photography. The highlight for me was a special exhibition of rarely seen work by British photographer Martin Parr, recipient of the awards’ Outstanding Contribution to Photography prize.
The whole exhibition closes this weekend, Sunday 7th May if you want to go check it out for yourself!
