Seen in.... Westbourne Green, London - Double Bass Man
05th April 2018 - 0 comments

If you are a local around the Paddington/Notting Hill area you may have seen this charismatic musician playing his double-bass on the streets. I'm not really one for taking photos of 'street performers' and musicians playing as such. I much prefer candid shots of interesting people like that when they are 'off-duty' as it were.

I have seen him walking around the neighbourhood with his double-bass only a handful times over the years, but have only ever caught a photo that I liked once before in the Portobello Road area and that was in 2011! Today was a lovely warm, sunny day in London - is Spring really finally here? On my stroll across to Notting Hill Gate, I decided to change my usual walking route to follow a sunnier path. As I turned a corner, who do I see walking up the road towards me?! Armed with just my iPhone I took the opportunity to grab another shot. I love when those moments of fate happen.

Seen in London .....Primrose Hill Snow 2018
02nd March 2018 - 0 comments

Earlier in the week when the snow was fresh, I decided to venture over to Primrose Hill, in NW London and get some photos and video footage. It felt like I was late for the party as it looked like most of the locals had taken the day of work and school to play in the snow!

Within 5 mins of arriving at Primrose Hill, I could not feel my fingers or my toes. It was pretty painful, but I didn't want to go home. Only problem when its so cold that you have no sensation in your fingers AND you're wearing gloves, is that it is impossible to work your camera!! I wasn't sure if I was even pressing the shutter button at times, so keep trying several times until I think I did!

Luckily I had my iPhone with me which was easier to work in the below zero freezing conditions. Though at one point I thought its battery had died from the cold, after a while of taking some photos and video, as it wouldn't turn on. Only to find when I was back on a bus home decided to come back on with 41% battery life still remaining! Arghh!!

After about an hour and a half, I decided it was time to go home and warm up before hypothermia set in and my fingers fell off! As much as snow in London is beautiful to look at and great to take photos of, I am very much looking forward to the Spring and some warm weather!

Seen in London - Orange sky c/o Hurricane Ophelia
17th October 2017 - 0 comments

Yesterday's surreal red sun and orange skies over the UK were quite amazing weren't they?! I put my camera white balance on 'daylight' and took a photo out of my window of the orangey sky around 3pm.

Weather experts say it is caused by ex-hurricane Ophelia pulling air and Sahara dust from southern Europe and Africa.

No Sepia was used in the making of this photo!

Seen in Soho, London - Face Piercings
25th July 2017 - 0 comments

Seen in Soho, London - I had to get a candid close up, to highlight this interesting guy's face piercings. His whole outfit was quite unique.

Someone online asked me 'Why didn't you stop him and ask him to pose for you?' I'm not a 'stop and ask for a portrait' kind of street shooter. There are posed street portrait photographers already out there, that is their style and that's great. However, I prefer not to disturb people out in the street. Candid portraits shows someone's natural character and soul of a person, which can be lost when someone is conscious or shy in front of a camera.

Seen in Soho, London - hot cat
22nd June 2017 - 0 comments

Another boiling hot day in London, another workshop! This cat just lay there chilling outside this convenience store in a really busy part of London. Loads of people were walking by, some even stopping to pet it. Kitty didn't even flinch or react like it was thinking 'I can't be bothered, its too hot!' of which it was, a sweltering 32C!!

Seen in Embankment, London....

Not very often you see a penny farthing bicycle in London! This gentleman in top hat and tails was a Tweed Run participant, which is an annual event in London where sharply dressed cyclists (mostly in stylish English tweed outfits) embark on a cycle route around town and end with an old fashioned, tea party drank from real China cups! I'm very sure Gin is also involved!

Seen in Maida Vale, London

We just had a random, icy snow shower in West London! Taken in comfort from a window, but saw that everyone out and about got slightly caught out and surprised by the freak weather! *chuckle* As Prince once sang 'Sometimes It Snows In April'!
Seen in Westbourne Park... fire and smoke

There was a big fire in Westbourne Park, West London today. Major fire damage to shops and some poor residents now have no flat to come back to. Somewhere behind all the smoke there was lovely blue sky...

Seen in Trafalgar Square, London 2017. This elegant man dressed in black was far too dapper to not photograph.

I taught my first full day, 1-2-1 street photography workshop of 2017 today! One of a few coming up. A much needed photo walk 'work-out' after the holiday season excesses! It was just great to be out and teaching again, which i love! Anyway, the workshop went extremely well and some student photos and a blog post will be coming!

Today marks the end of another successfully completed 3-day street photography workshop, with a small group of international travellers into London. We had a fun last day roaming around Brick Lane, Shoreditch and finally ending in the busy Columbia Road Flower Market where this photo was taken.

I will blog post a few more pics taken during the workshop in the coming days!
